2025 New Shooter Program
This program is designed to provide an individual with the basic information and shooting experience necessary to participate in shooting events organized by the Central Indiana Highpower Rifle Shooters club (CIHPRS) at Camp Atterbury.
The charge for the program is $20 per person. Individuals must register on the CIHPRS website at CIHPRS.org before May 1, 2025. A maximum of 24 people will be allowed to participate, on a first come-first served basis. Shooters of all skill levels are welcome to attend.
The program is a two day event, May 3 and May 4, and all registrants must attend both days. Participants will shoot at 300 and 500 yards on the first day, and at 800 and 1000 yards on the second.
Most of the program time will be spent shooting, but some
instructional/information sharing time is also included. The program will start about 9 am, and finish about 1 pm each day.
Participants must bring the following items with them:
1. A rifle and ammunition capable of shooting a 2 inch group at 100 yards, and sighted in at 100 yards. In past years, participants have fired approximately 15 rounds at each yard line, so 60 to 80 rounds will be necessary to complete both days. The intention is for participants to shoot the same rifle from 300 to 1000 yards, so it is important that the rifle is capable of hitting the target at 1000 yards. Note that a standard AR-15, and most rifles chambered in .223, shooting factory ammo, are not capable of this.
2. The rifle should be equipped with a scope of at least 15 power and have target/tactical style turrets.
3. A bipod or front rest, and a rear rest (sandbags will work).
4. A shooting mat or something to lay on (the ground will probably be damp). All shooting will be done from the prone position.
5. A smartphone or tablet or laptop. All shooting will be done on electronics targets. Note that a bigger device is easier to see while shooting. 6. A folding chair or stool.
7. Any comfort items like water, snacks, elbow pads, etc.
