CIHPRS 2026 New Shooter Program 

The fourth annual CIHPRS New Shooter Program is scheduled for June 20, 2026 at Camp Atterbury. A total of 20 participants will be able attend, and all must register on the club website CIHPRS.wildapricot.org. Participants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. A registration fee of $20 will be collected at the time of registration. 

This program is designed to give the shooter the basic information necessary to participate in club shooting matches throughout the year. Shooters will be given basic instruction on scope setup, position, and the organization of a midrange match. A schedule of matches for the 2026 season is available on the website. 

Targets will be shot at 300, 500, and 600 yards. If there is time, and the group is interested, shooting out to 1000 yards may be offered. 

Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment to the program, although a limited number of club rifles will be made available to those without the proper equipment to participate. Equipment necessary for that day include: a rifle and ammunition capable of shooting accurately out to 600 yards, equipped with a scope of at least 10 power, a shooting mat (something to lay on that will keep you dry), a front rifle rest or bipod, a rear rifle bag (sandbags will do), and a laptop, tablet, or cell phone (we shoot on electronic targets). Please note that a AR-15 type rifle (or something similar) with a 16” barrel, shooting 55 grain ammo will not make it to the target at 600 yards. People registering will be asked for a description of their equipment, to ensure it is adequate for the distances being shot. 

There are not many places around the State that you can shoot beyond 100 yards, let alone out to 600 yards and beyond. CIPHRS will host almost 20 matches this summer at Camp Atterbury, and there is lots of room for

more shooters. Please consider joining us at this new shooter program, learn how to shoot out to at least 600 yards, and then come to shoot some matches with us!
